As many of you know the Sony Ericsson xperia play (or the PSP phone as many people know it as), was released a couple of weeks ago. Now this is great to see that android is taking a new side, the side of gaming… IOS will no longer lead the mobile gaming platform.

The specs of this phone is very impressive… A 1GHZ processor is always nice, a 4 inch screen, a slide out gaming keyboard and android 2.3. What else could it have? Dual-core would have been better and maybe a slightly bigger battery but still, overall, a very good phone.

One of the best features though is the ability to use the game pad with almost any of the games on the android market. Including a whole line of games been setup just for the xperia play. Although I have not experienced the phone in person I have seen plenty of videos and plenty of written reviews and I am pretty convinced that the game pad is as good as any other PSP created.

The software of the phone is very impressive as well. It running the latest version of android (2.3, Gingerbread) is also a major upgrade… Because as we all know Sony Ericsson isn’t the best at getting the latest version of android. Anyway, it’s running a much needed upgrade to Sony’s custom UI and being a Playstation certified device never hearts.

It’s also got a 5 megapixle camera on the back and been capable of shooting 720p video is a great feature to have enabled, although I was expecting more of an 8 megapixle camera, as Sony puts on most phone of theres. Anyway the quality is up to scratch which I guess is the most important thing.

Overall a excellent phone and if I could afford one it would be my second choice along side the htc desire s.

Thanks

Ben
